Demon
Happy Therapy is the latest project from French music producer Jérémie Mondon aka Demon. It features groundbreaking video and design, and is a concept grown out of a shared vision by Demon, Ora-Ïto and The Smiley group. Looking to explore the interaction of sound visual and smell, Happy Therapy the perfume is a new fragrance developed to positively alter the mood of the user and those around them through its application. Happy Therapy the song and the accompanying video have been developed specifically to enhance these effects.
No stranger to alternative projects such as this, Demon is internationally recognised as one of France's most significant and experimental artists in electronica and his previous works have included remixes and collaborations that span a variety of genres and a multitude of high profile artists.
Born in Paris in 1977, Jeremies earlier works were heavily influenced by hip hop artists such as the Wu-Tang Clan, and Black moon, which culminated in his first musical release: Prophtie made in conjunction with French hip-hop collective Symbiose.
Further experimentation drew Demon to the developing French electronica scene, and with the creation of his record label 20000ST, Demons debut EP A-Typique would go on to become a seminal record in dance communities worldwide.
A whole host of remixes and subsequent ep releases followed the success of his debut and ultimately this led to the release of his highly acclaimed album Midnight Funk. Following on from the success of the album Demon went on to compose the massive international club hit You Are My High, which featured the now cult video containing a 2'50 sequence shot of a languorous French kiss that would later have him nominated for a Victoires de la Musique (French music award) and an MTV Music Award beside Daft Punk and Manu Chao. Five years after its release, You Are My High has sold 200 000 copies and still frequently receives airplay worldwide. In addition to his own productions, Demon's talents as a remixer have always been heavily in demand and his discography now reads like a whos who in French dance music. Having worked closely with artists such as Etienne de Crecy, Daft Punk, Roy Davis Junior, Alex Gopher, Cassius and Mr Oizo, the 2003 album Branding captured a number of these joint efforts.
Always following his experimental instincts, 2004 saw Demon release the concept album Music That You Wanna Hear With the intention of transcending genres, the album would feature a whole host of respected international guests including Buckshot from Blackmoon, Craig Walker from Archive, and dancehall star Mr Vegas.
In 2006, Happy Therapy will be Demon's first release for his new label Help Yourself.
With the original single already proving a huge success in both underground and mainstream circles and with a full and typically groundbreaking remix package to follow, yet again Demon seems to have further pushed the boundaries of contemporary electronic music.
